A winter holiday in the Bergisches Land with the Waldhotel Wiehl as your base means winter hiking trails from the hotel, an indoor pool and sauna, the ice rink 2 minutes away and, when there is snow, sledging, cross-country trails and ski lifts 21 to 34 minutes by car.
Walking
Around 180 kilometres of well-marked hiking trails have been laid out in the Homburger Ländchen, with routes under Hiking in Wiehl. The circular trail in the wildlife park is about 1.8 kilometres long, open all day and a lovely winter loop after breakfast, more under Wiehl wildlife park.

Winter break in the cave, open doors at the hotel
Winter means: sauna instead of stalactites
The stalactite cave is closed in winter and reopens in spring. The Waldhotel, on the other hand, is open.
The dates for the next season are on the cave’s website. If you come in winter, plan with hiking, wellness and the destinations further down.

Good to know
Is the stalactite cave open in winter?
No, the cave takes a winter break and reopens in spring. Walking, wellness and the restaurant at the Waldhotel are not affected.
Where can you ski or sledge nearby?
The snow-covered Fahlenscheid ski area in Olpe is around 34 minutes away, and the small ski lifts in Reichshof around 21 minutes. All facilities depend on snow conditions; please ask the operator beforehand.
Can I go walking in winter?
Yes, in the Homburger Ländchen there are around 180 kilometres of well-marked walking trails, and the wildlife park circular route is accessible all day. Sturdy footwear is advisable.
Is there a sauna in the hotel?
Yes, the sauna and indoor pool are part of the hotel and included for hotel guests. The indoor pool is guaranteed to be usable from 08:00 to 18:00, and the sauna is switched on on request.
