Excursion with children: three destinations you can reach on foot
An excursion with children in Oberberg begins right on the doorstep of the Waldhotel Wiehl: the stalactite cave, the wildlife park and the forest climate trail are within walking distance, with more animal parks and swimming pools 20 to 40 minutes away by car. In the evening the restaurant serves children’s menus, and the indoor pool is waiting at the hotel.
Stalactite cave
Torches in hand, you go underground: the tour takes around 45 minutes and leads down to a depth of 30 metres, and it stays at around 8 °C all year round. There is no minimum age, and the visit suits children of primary-school age best. To the stalactite cave
Wildlife park
Fallow deer, red deer, mouflon and wild boar live there in generous enclosures. The park is open all day and freely accessible, and the circular trail is around 1.8 kilometres long. To the wildlife park
Forest climate trail
Tree guide, climate benches, bee observation hive and insect hotel show even the little ones how the forest is changing with the climate. The stations lie along the circular trail of the wildlife park in Wiehl.
Indoor pool and sauna
After a long day out, the indoor pool at the hotel is waiting. To the wellness area
One day
A family day from breakfast to bedtime
Morning: down into the cave
You can read how the tour works under Hotel by the stalactite cave. Tours start promptly on the hour, and the meeting point is the ticket desk at the kiosk. The entrance leads down 26 steps, and a pushchair cannot come along. You will find a toilet and a baby-changing room at the ticket desk.
Afternoon: out into the wildlife park
Watching animals, romping on the meadow, racing along the forest climate trail. Picnic benches in the forest let everyone take a break together.
Evening: children’s menu in the restaurant
The restaurant serves several children’s menus, and when the weather is fine you sit on the terrace. To the restaurant
To finish: peace and quiet at the hotel
If you stay overnight, choose a double room in Wiehl or a family room for 2 adults and 1 child.
